Bingo Weighbridge & Carpark

The project at the Bingo Eastern Creek Recycling Centre, a 24/7 operational live site, included the construction and relocation of six weighbridges and the development of a new car park with 40 spaces. Throughout the project, Chalouhi ensured uninterrupted site access for Bingo’s heavy trucks, while dealing with a number of ground and site restrictions.

Alternative design and precision work with no allowed tolerance

Alternative design and precision work with no allowed tolerance

During the project, Chalouhi discovered that the designed fall of the road had a high voltage cable that couldn’t be relocated. We worked with the client to devise an alternative design that would avoid relocation, which saved both time and costs. This adjustment was crucial for the installation of the new weighbridges, which required zero tolerance on levels to ensure accurate measurements. Working with the contractors, we implemented additional quality checks to ensure installation of the pre-made weighbridges frame into the concrete was achieved without any issues.

Deeper excavation to overcome groundwater issues

While excavating we found that groundwater posed an issue with the subgrade, which required us to dig 1 metre below the subgrade in affected areas. After geotechnical approval we backfilled with dry materials to create a stable foundation utilising Bingo’s recycled natural roadbase (DGB20), which is an RMS approved roadbase. To allow the client operational truck access during the project, Chalouhi constructed a temporary road using roadbase DGB20 material. This road was compacted to provide a firm surface and was inspected and maintained daily at 4.30am to accommodate heavy traffic. At the end of the project it was utilised as a storage area for the large container bins.
