Chalouhi were sub-contracted by Eastern Pacific to undertake the preliminary works for the luxurious development of “The Mason” In Belfield. Phase one of the earthwork package was inclusive of demolition and site-remediation works. The second phase of the contract encompassed deep excavation and ground engineering works on the 4,984 metre square site.
Site preparation began with the soft strip out of the non-structural elements of the building before proceeding with the removal and disposal of an underground storage tank. A complete remediation of the site was undertaken extending to approximately 700 cubic metres of GSW material, 120 cubic metres of non-friable asbestos material and 40 cubic metres of hydrocarbon contaminated material.
A robotic demolition machine, two 35 tonnes excavators, hammer pulverizes and electrical scissor lifts were handled to mechanically demolish a 17-metre-high three-story brick factory, steel structures, concrete slabs, a single-story mechanical repair building and all surrounding structures within the site boundaries. Structural props were installed throughout every stage of Demolition and access ramps were braced to structurally support and prevent any lateral movement of the building.
Working to programme, the team undertook the ground engineering works for the supply and construct of a 2,125 metres squared shotcrete wall. Shotcrete preparation works were inclusive of the installation of piling, capping beams and struts as well as temporary anchors to provide structural support for the staged Bulk Excavation of over 47,000 cubic metres of VENM.
