The Watermark

The Watermark is a 206-unit development built upon a repurposed golf course in Chatswood, NSW. Scope for this project included demolition, land clearing, grubbing, soil excavation removal and remediation, design and construction of temporary service access roads, bulk and detailed excavations, and shoring works, including piling, capping beams and shotcrete.

In-house capabilities to complete bulk excavation and ground anchor installation

Using our in-house resources, we utilised excavators, such as hammer and rock-saw attachments, for corners and detailed areas of the basements, shaping the perimeter walls. The Chalouhi team fortified the project’s stability by supplying and installing a network of 30 permanent ground anchors. Extensive earthworks spanned 30 weeks, with a bulk excavation of over 105,000m3. Works included the detailed excavation of pad footings, lift pits, stairwells and other critical structural components to set the foundation for 11 basements.

Recycling crushed rock to achieve sustainability goals and meet project timelines

Chalouhi onboarded a surface miner to crush, excavate and remove unwanted material simultaneously to counteract challenges caused by the rocky terrain of the site, which could have jeopardised strict program deadlines. In areas where the terrain prevented access, we deployed our excavators and crushers to process boulders. Chalouhi was able to crush over 70,000m3 of sandstone to size into approximately 75mm minus rock, of which 25,000m3 was reused across the site for the construction of the temporary access haul road. The efficiency of these resources ensured the project remained on track and within agreed-upon timelines.
